Considering JICS?

Finding the right spiritual and educational fit for your loved ones is an important decision. Here we provide some insight into who we are and what we are about at JICS to help you decide.

Finding a "Good-Fit" Partnership

Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions you make for your child. Knowing that your child will probably spend 10,000+ hours in a classroom before the age of 14, you want to be sure you are making the best choice for your child. Even more importantly, finding a school that reinforces the biblical beliefs taught in your home that are integrated into your child's education is a critical component of Godly parenting.

What makes JICS distinct is our focus on both cultivating a strong Christian worldview while also providing a rigorous academic program. While many schools will sacrifice one for the other, know it is possible to address both areas in the classroom. Our teachers have been trained to integrate biblical instruction in all courses of study in a natural way. This allows students to develop a mindset to live out what they believe in every area of their life.

As you consider the best fit for your child, we encourage you to review the beliefs and values of James Island Christian School as you make the best decision for your child. Carefully read through the most frequently asked questions to learn more about JICS. For additional information, you may schedule an individual tour and request to meet with the Head of School.

Who We Are

James Island Christian School exists to provide an opportunity for academic excellence within a Christ-centered environment that complements the teaching of the home and the church.  Everything we do is aligned with our four core values:  Christ-Centered, Biblically-Based, Academically Excellent, and Service Driven.  Our ultimate goal is to prepare the next generation to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to be exactly who He created them to be, both academically and spiritually.

With low teacher to student ratios, we offer a curriculum that integrates faith and learning.  Qualified teachers follow a curriculum that is aligned to standards, ensuring that students are prepared at the end of each grade for the next level.  The curriculum is presented through hands-on activities, age appropriate technology, collaboration, and differentiated lessons.  All students have a daily Bible class and attend regularly scheduled chapel time where students learn to worship, pray, study the Bible, and apply all they have learned.

Using a whole child approach, in addition to the academic and spiritual focus, the physical growth of our students is addressed with an offering of a variety of sports beginning at age 3 with our Junior Lions program.  Grade 5 students can be part of competitive volleyball, basketball, swimming, soccer, and tennis teams.

Our campus spans approximately six acres on beautiful James Island and encompasses a multi-complex including a well-equipped science lab, computer lab, and gymnasium.

Our Beginnings

James Island Christian School began out of a vision of having a private Christian school that was academically excellent while at the same time using God’s Word as the foundation for all subject matter.  In 1994, after many months of prayer and planning the school opened its door for the first time. James Island Christian School was established by families of James Island Christian Church as a next generation ministry to help serve and partner with families in raising their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

In 1995, James Island Christian School received its first full accreditation through the South Carolina Independent School Association and received AdvancEd Accreditation in 2014. We are also a part of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), and an active member of Christian Schools International (CSI).

What Makes Us Different?

Biblically Integrated Curriculum

All of our classes, from toddler to 8th grade are biblically integrated.  We strive to use every opportunity to combine faith and learning in order to allow the Christian faith to direct the educational experience.

Diverse Student Body

Our student body is diverse – including students from different races, different socio-economic levels, and different first languages.  Our families come from all across the Lowcountry and beyond.

Whole Child Approach

We believe in addressing the needs of the whole child – spiritually, emotionally, academically, and physically. Our classrooms are filled with activities that meet all learning styles, behavior is addressed using scripture, and we offer a full range of sports from K3 to grade 8.

Family Environment

We are a family.  Our focus is not only on the student, but the whole family, believing that parents are an essential, primary piece of the education of their children.  We believe in investing in and supporting the whole family through prayer, activities, collaboration, and more. We believe in knowing the student and the family, not just having a student in a chair in a classroom.
