September 2010 Spotlight:   Stephen Miller Class of 2009

/files/admin/smilleralumni.jpg

Stephen is a graduate of the Class of 2009. While at JICS, he participated in the Mathlete Competition and was active in Beta Club and Student Government Association.  As a senior he was the school’s student chaplain. He began attending JICS as a 3 year old, the first year JICS opened.

In the fall of his junior year, Stephen took advantage of a tour of colleges in upstate South Carolina led by Mrs. Bentz. As a result, he became interested in Furman University in Greenville, SC. In the spring Mrs. Bentz passed along information to him about an opportunity to apply for the Riley Institute’s Emerging Public Leaders program at Furman in the summer. He applied and was accepted along with fourteen other rising seniors from around the country. This experience had a tremendous impact upon him and solidified his desire to attend Furman upon graduation from JICS.

Stephen has just begun his second year at Furman where he has not yet declared his major. His interests are in the sciences. Last year he participated in intramural soccer and was also involved in the Investors Club.

He particularly enjoys traveling and hopes to do much more in the future including some study abroad courses with Furman. His desire is to follow God in selecting a major and a career path.
