Does Perspective Matter?

Your interest in Christian education indicates that you understand the importance of perspective. An individual's understanding of the world and the way one interacts with the world is dependent upon that individual's perspective. It is often referred to as the person's worldview. Just as our perspective is shaped by what is understood to be real and true, right or wrong, ugly or beautiful, a person's worldview is the sum total of their beliefs about the world as understood from the knowledge that has been acquired.

Before explorers braved the oceans, most people thought the earth was flat. Due to the limited view of the planet on which they lived, explorers lacked the perspective which would enable them to see its true spherical nature. Today we know the world is not flat. Our knowledge of the world has expanded incredibly. Our improved perspective of the world has freed us from the errors of the past.

Knowledge, and the means of education, has never been more widespread than it is today. But knowledge, as we have illustrated, can be flawed if it carries with it the flawed perspectives of the instructors and the educational system. So it is essential that education be rooted in good values, and that knowledge is imparted from a true perspective. Education is incomplete unless it is centered on the reality of God and His infallible Word. Education should be positive and truthful.

The mission of James Island Christian School is to work in partnership with parents and the church to provide an educational environment with a Christian perspective, based upon the authority of God's Word and the teachings of Jesus Christ as its central core. It is only through the submission of one's life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ that a true perspective can be acquired. Romans 12: 2 challenges each believer to no longer conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of their minds so they may be able to test and approve what God's will is, His good, pleasing and perfect will.

ADMISSIONS and ENROLLMENT PROCEDURE
Applications for enrollment are available in the JICS office for pick up, can be mailed to you, or you can print one from the PDF files at the top of this page. Once an application for admission has been submitted, a school representative will contact you to set up an appointment for you and your student to visit the school.

It is required of each new family to meet with the headmaster for an interview. It is important that the student be present. New students must present acceptable scores on a standardized test such as Stanford 9, report card grades of "C" or above, and conduct grades that indicate good study skills and good citizenship.

Parents and students are required to read and sign the Statement of Cooperation indicating their agreement with the mission and policies of the school, and confirming the student's and parent's commitment to partner with the school in providing a quality, Christ-centered education. In addition, students in rising seventh through twelfth grades must complete and sign a Student Statement of Faith.

Students must be six before September 1 in order to enroll in first grade.

At this time, James Island Christian School is not able to provide effective programs for mentally or emotionally handicapped children, those with serious behavioral problems, children with severe academic deficiencies, or those with severe learning disabilities.

James Island Christian School admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, national, or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, and other school-administered programs.
