Curriculum Overview
The curriculum of JICS is structured to foster strong academic preparation, and the spiritual development necessary to train children for life as Christians. The truth of God's Word is the foundation and perspective from which all subjects are taught. We offer a program of study from kindergarten through twelfth grades which includes weekly chapels, Bible classes in all grades, computer instruction, physical education classes, and opportunities for enrichment in all grades. ABEKA and Bob Jones English, Houghton Mifflin, McDougal Littell, and Bob Jones Mathematics programs. Students in grades one through twelve enjoy the Accelerated Reader program which promotes reading success. Media Center services are available to all students within the school. Upper and Middle School students have opportunities to participate in various academic competitions such as a math meet, literary meet or writing contest. Children are encouraged to put their faith in action through school sponsored programs such as Operation Christmas Child.
Lower School
Our K-4 through fifth grade students are in traditional classroom settings. Class sizes may not exceed twenty-three students. Currently we have one class of all Lower School grades. Students learn to read through course of integrated Language study using the ABEKA curriculum. Lower School students also study Bible, Houghton Mifflin Mathematics, Bob Jones History, Concordia Science, handwriting, and attend special area classes each week. Special area classes include physical education, music, art, spanish, computer classes, and library. Lower School students have many special events such as t
he Character Parade, Christian Heritage Days, and field trips.
Middle School
Students in grades sixth through eighth attend classes in Mathematics, Science, English, History, Bible, PE, and daily Devotions. Students change classes throughout the day, attend a weekly chapel, and focus on becoming more independent learners. In eighth grade students begin taking classes for high school credit in Mathematics and Physical Education. We also offer MS/HS Choir for grades 6th-12th.
High School
Our High School students focus on preparation for college. One major emphasis of all high school courses is helping students to develop a Christian worldview. Students take courses in the content
areas of English, Mathematics, Sciences, and History. In addition, all high school students take Spanish, Computer, Bible and Philosophy classes. Students may choose to study Drama, Speech, or Yearbook as electives. We also offer MS/HS Choir for grades 6th-12th. All students attend a weekly chapel, and many serve on the praise and worship team. In addition, students who qualify may elect to participate in Honors level classes in Mathematics, Science, History, and English. Our seniors can also dual enroll at Trident Tech. for HS and college credit. We also offer an "Internship Program". Some of our seniors will train with local companies or ministries for a few hours a day. We also have mission training for a few seniors. They will work for a short time on the mission field, seniors must meet credit guidelines to qualify for this ministry. This program will have a cost for parents. However, all events and training will be directed and organized by the school. Seniors will receive a credit for this ministry which requires daily work and an essay due at the end of their trip.
